At last, I can share one of my latest and most exciting projects with you. Earlier this year, Marion from Surfista Surfboards and I started co-creating a piece of rideable artwork. A quick little backstory; I came across Marion's work a couple of years ago when I was glassing surfboards at Lombok's first shaping bay, Banyu. With very limited internet - for which I had to drive a bike for 20 minutes to access 😂 - I marvelled at Marion's boards from across the world and we started talking about working together one day. This rad woman has been making her mark in a male-dominated industry for years now and let me tell ya... she is going places.
Our collaboration is another "full circle" moment. I wish I could have flown to France to meet her in person as and see her shaping the board as we planned, but we will leave that for another time when travelling isn't an absolute nightmare! We've still been loving the process of merging our magic to bring this board to life from a distance.
The board is a twin fin fish (dimensions: 5'8" x 20 3/4" x 2 1/2") completely handmade from start to finish by Marion, with a one-of-a-kind photographic inlay of my original artwork "Equilibrium."
Apart from the surfboard and original piece, we made a little 'Making Of' video for you in which we share some scenes of our processes. See the video and photos below (make sure you change the video settings to 1080P HD).
We hope you love it.
Much love,
Zee
