"Do something today that your future self will thank you for" are words that I used to remind myself of daily and still do at times when needed. I know that I am speaking from a place of privilege (growing up as a white, healthy, able-bodied female in a safe country) but -apart from unavoidable tragedies- I believe that we are the creators of our own reality, fuelled by the choices we make. From the people we surround ourselves with, what we consume emotionally and physically to the ways we spend our time and attention... each choice (re)creates us. My priceless memories and equally valuable challenging experiences have been the kindling that started the fire to pursue what is my current reality. As well as the previous chapters of my life that I dreamed up in my mind, each which came with its own set of challenges, mistakes and failures. Every decision set the next chapter in motion, without knowing for sure, but with a deep underlying trusting. It's a balance of choosing consciously and believing that things will work out. We cannot only rely on -the perhaps overused- 'everything happens for a reason,' it is our actions that allow us to take control of our lives. Inaction is the cause and result of fear, and action creates action.
There is a reason I am a visual artist and not a writer, so I apologise if this story doesn't make sense. “Momentum” is a new 50cm circle, embodying the frozen motion of breaking waves, a textured glistening seabed, immersed in deep dark royal blue and turquoise, creamy sandbars and golden undercurrents...
